Lakes and mountains during the summer: Carinthia

English. This summer holidays, I went to visit my friends who live in Carinthia (Austria). This time I went by car from home, to be more free and bring with me the mountain bike (which I must confess I hardly used).

This time I confirm what I suspected the previous year: this area of ​​Austria is plenty of beautiful places immersed in nature, where to have fun and get relaxed instead of  fighting for the last inch of sand on the beach, especially during August in Italy. Sure, the sea is always the sea (and only I know how I miss it), but I can tell: you can still enjoy the same way a swim in one of the many lakes there are in the area (all balneables and most of them with all kinds of services and facilities), in alternative, you can do a good walk in the mountains, by foot or by mountain bike, (there are hundreds of trails of all types ) and obviously your journey may include a picnic.

Italiano. Quest’anno, durante le vacanze estive, sono stato dai miei amici che vivono in Carinzia in Austria. Questa volta però sono andato in auto, per muovermi più liberamente e portare la  mountain bike (che ho usato poco a dire il vero).

Questa volta vi confermo quello che sospettavo l’anno precedente: questa zona dell’Austria è piena di tanti bei luoghi immersi nel verde dove divertirsi e rilassarsi, una alternativa valida alla lotta per l’ultimo centimetro di sabbia sulla spiaggia, come succede in Italia, soprattutto durante il mese di agosto. Certo, il mare è sempre il mare (e solo io so quanto mi manchi), ma vi assicuro che è possibile godersi un tuffo in uno dei numerosi laghi della zona (tutti balneabili e la maggior parte con tutti i servizi e strutture del caso ), o fare una bella passeggiata in montagna, a piedi o in bicicletta, (ci sono centinaia di sentieri di ogni tipo), includendo ovviamente anche un bel un pic-nic.

Español. Este año, durante las vacaciones de verano, volví a visitar a mis amigos que viven en Carintia, en Austria. Esta vez  viajé en auto desde casa, para moverme más libremente y llevar mi mountain bike (que debo confesar casi no utilicé, más que todo porque la compañía no daba para eso).

Esta vez confirmé lo que el año anterior sospechaba: esta zona de Austria está llena de sitios bellísimos inmersos en la naturaleza donde divertirse y relajarse, una válida alternativa a la lucha por el último cm de arena en la playa, sobre todo en agosto, durante las clásicas vacaciones de verano italianas. Claro, el mar es el mar (y solo yo sé como lo extraño), pero les aseguro que igualmente se disfruta un baño en uno de los tantos lagos de la zona (todos balneables y la mayoría con toda clase de servicios y comodidades), o un buen paseo en la montaña, a pie o en bici, (hay cientos de senderos de todos los tipos) en el que muy bien se puede incluir un picnic.

English. In this post: some pictures of Gerlizen, ( in front of Ossiacher See) and
Bad Kleinkirchheim, both ski locations during the winter. To climb Gerlitzen just leave the car in the parking lot and go up with the cable car, then choose between several trails and spend the day among towering fir trees, green ferns and the characters of the local wildlife that occasionally remind you that you’re at them home, but that also you are welcomed. At the top of the mountain there is a newly opened hotel where you can spend the night and delight with sunsets / sunrises, that are spectacular. We enjoyed a well deserved beer and enjoyed the peace and cool air that only the heights give, seeing the electric gliders try to touch the sky. Just be aware of the cable car closing time, do not be fooled by the light of summer, we bitterly discovered that closes at 5 pm!

Italiano. In questo post : alcune immagini di Gerlizen, situato davanti al lago (Ossiacher See) e di Bad Kleinkirchheim, entrambi  stazioni sciistiche durante l’inverno. Per salire su Gerlitzen lascia l’auto nel parcheggio e sali in funivia, poi scegli tra i diversi percorsi e trascorri la giornata tra gli imponenti abeti, verdi felci e i personaggi della fauna locale, che di tanto in tanto ti ricordino che sei a casa loro, ma che sei del tutto benvenuto. Nella parte più alta vi è un hotel di recente apertura dove si può trascorrere la notte e godersi il tramonto o l’alba che è spettacolare. Noi ci siamo goduti una meritata birra, apprezzando la pace e il fresco che solo la montagna può offrire, ci siamo rilassati come mai, guardando gli alianti che cercavano di toccare il cielo. Fatelo anche voi! ma attenzione all’ora di chiusura della funivia, non fatevi ingannare dalla luce dell’estate, come è accaduto proprio a noi!

Para subir a Gerlitzen deja el auto en el estacionamiento y sube con el teleférico, luego escoges entre varios senderos y pasas el día entre altísimos abetos, verdes helechos y personajes de la fauna local que de vez en cuando te recuerdan que estás en su casa, pero te dan la bienvenida. En la parte más alta hay un recién inaugurado hotel en donde puedes pernoctar y deleitarte con el atardecer/amanecer que es espectacular. Nosotros nos deleitamos con una merecida cerveza y disfrutamos de la paz y el fresco que sólo dan las alturas, nos relajamos como nunca viendo los planeadores eléctricos tratar de tocar el cielo. Hazlo tu también pero cuidado con el horario de cierre del teleférico, no te dejes engañar con la luz del verano, descubrimos amargamente que cierran a las 5!

 

English. To go on top of Bad Kleinkirchheim, just take the cable car at the village in the valley and then you have multiple options to walk and delight with the view from the heights.

Note that the whole area is plenty of hot springs that run throughout the year, so it is a good idea organizing an itinerary where the physical effort walks alternates with a well-deserved relaxation time that is good both for body and soul. Otherwise why do they call it vacation?

Italiano. Per salire a Bad Kleinkirchheim, basta prendere la funivia dal paesino in basso e poi si sceglie tra diversi percorsi per camminare e godersi la vista dalle alture.

Da notare che tutta la zona è ricca di sorgenti termali, aperte durante tutto l’anno, per cui vale la pena organizzare un itinerario in cui lo sforzo fisico delle passeggiate si alterni con un meritato relax che è buono sia per il corpo che per l’anima . Altrimenti che vacanze sono?

Español. Para subir a Bad Kleinkirchheim, igual tomas el teleférico en la parte baja y luego tienes múltiples opciones para pasear y deleitarte la vista desde las alturas.

Tengan en cuenta que toda esa zona está llena de fuentes termales que funcionan durante todo el año, así que bien vale organizarse un itinerario donde alternar el esfuerzo físico de los paseos con un buen merecido relax que le hace bien al cuerpo y al alma. Para eso también son las vacaciones, o no?

Places: Fusine Lakes (Remembering the summer I)

A estas alturas el verano es solo un vago recuerdo. Menos mal que existen las fotos. Durante el torrido mes de agosto tuve la oportunidad de visitar unos amigos que se mudaron para Austria, para conocer a su primogenito y pasar algo de tiempo juntos. Obviamente me llevé la reflex y mis amados objetivos para inmortalar el asunto; asi que: menos mal que existen las fotos, así uno luego se acomoda delante de un buen té humeante y se pone a recordar esos gratos momentos que la naturaleza y los amigos le ofrecen a uno durante la vida.

Esta vez les voy a escribir acerca de los lagos de Fusine. Fusine in Valromana es un pueblito ubicado en el extremo noreste de italia, practicamente en la frontera con Eslovenia y Austria, y aunque mi estadia fué en Austria pues resulta que pasamos tiempo por este lado de la raya dando vueltas por pueblitos y localidades completamente italianas. De hecho durante este viaje también tuve la oportunidad de conocer algo de Tarvisio y Udine.

Fusine es famoso por sus dos lagos. En realidad conocí solo uno (el mas pequeño) pero por lo que pude entender el mas bonito. Debo decir que la palabra bonito se queda corta. Este pequeño lago es un pedacito de paraíso que los dioses nos dejaron aca en la tierra. Es un sitio que solo verlo en fotos relaja y regala paz interior. No les digo la dicha que da estar allí en persona porque dificilmente se entiende. Y eso que yo fui un día “nublado”, es decir: no era el mejor día para ir, pero como no había tiempo para esperar en mejoras meteorologicas pues ni modo. Uno llega allí y al final se va con las pilas y el alma recargada. Lo que más me impresionó de todo, fueron los colores del agua, una cosa indescriptible.

A Fusine se le llega en Carro, aunque supe que también se llega con el transporte publico local. En todo caso y con la cantidad de artilugios satelitares de hoy dia pues dificil es no llegarle. Se le puede dar una vuelta al lago a pie utilizando el sendero que lo rodea, se pueden alquilar unos barquitos para hacer creer a los demas que uno es bueno remando, llevarse un refrigerio y hacer un picnic de lo mas “nature”, llevarse una manta y echarse a leer o simplemente escuchar a la naturaleza…

Todo ese orgasmo visual y ese agite fisico pues genera un mega desgaste calorico y afortunadamente en el sitio hay un bar que ofrece sencillos pero deliciosos bocados de la gastronomia local, como la polenta de papas con salchichas que tuve el placer de probar. En fin, si les digo que sali de allí renovado como si hubiese salido de un spa me lo creen verdad? Hasta una foto me deje tomar… con eso les digo todo!

Ahora que llega el invierno no quiero imaginar lo espectacular que debe ser este lugar luego de una nevada, durante un día soleado…

Ormai l’estate è solo un ricordo. Per fortuna esistono le foto. Durante il caldo mese di agosto ho avuto l’opportunità di visitare degli amici che si sono trasferiti in Austria, per conoscere il loro primogenito e trascorrere del tempo insieme. Ovviamente ho portato la reflex e i miei obiettivi per immortalare il viaggio; quindi si: per fortuna ci sono le foto, così uno poi si mette di fronte a un buon tè fumante e inizia a ricordare quei bei momenti che la natura e gli amici gli offrono durante la vita.

Questa volta vi scrivo sui laghi di Fusine. Fusine in Valromana è un paesino situato nel nord-est d’Italia, quasi al confine con la Slovenia e l’Austria, e anche se il mio soggiorno è stato in Austria, abbiamo trascorso molto tempo al di qua della frontiera tra villaggi e località del tutto italiane. Infatti durante questo viaggio ho avuto l’opportunità di conoscere Tarvisio e Udine.

Fusine è famosa per i suoi due laghi. A dire il vero ho visitato solo uno (il più piccolo), ma da quello che ho capito è il più bello. Devo dire che la parola bello non basta. Questo piccolo lago è una fetta di paradiso che gli dei ci hanno lasciato sulla terra. E ‘un posto che soltanto a vederlo in foto ci rilassa e ci dona la pace interiore tanto cercata… e dire che ci sono andato durante una giornata “nuvolosa”, che non era la migliore per andarci, ma non c’era tempo di aspettare in miglioramenti meteorologici. Uno arriva lì e se ne va con le batterie e l’anima ricaricate . Quello che mi ha colpito più di tutto, erano i colori dell’acqua, qualcosa di indescrivibile.

Noi ci siamo arrivati in macchina, ma ho sentito che è anche collegato con i mezzi pubblici locali. In ogni caso, non è un posto così difficile da raggiungere utilizzando il navigatore. Si può passeggiare intorno al lago a piedi, utilizzando il percorso intorno ad esso, è possibile noleggiare una barchetta e fare finta di remare, fare uno spuntino o un picnic, prendere una coperta e sdraiarsi a leggere o semplicemente ascoltare la natura …

Vi assicuro che tutta questa attività e questo orgasmo visivo che subirete vi creerà un abbassamento di calorie,  fortunatamente c’è un bar che offre semplici ma gustosi spuntini della cucina locale come la polenta di patate con salsiccia che ho avuto il piacere di assaggiare. Beh, quando dico che sono uscito da qui rinnovato come se di un centro benessere si trattassi, mi credete vero? Pensate che mi sono addirittura lasciato fotografare! (e con questo vi dico tutto).

Ora che si avvicina l’inverno non oso immaginare quanto spettacolare sarà questo posto dopo una nevicata, in una giornata soleggiata.

By now the summer is just a memory. Thank god there are pictures. During the hot month of August I had the opportunity to visit a couple of friends who moved to Austria, to meet his firstborn and spend some time together. Obviously I took the reflex and my beloved objectives with me to immortalize the entire trip; so yes: luckily for me there are pictures, so I can have a seat in front of a good steaming tea and start to remember those great moments that nature and friends offer during life.

This time I will write about Fusine lakes. Fusine in Valromana is a little village located in the northeast of Italy, almost on the border with Slovenia and Austria, and although my stay was in Austria, we spent time on this side of the frontier going around Italian villages and towns. In fact during this trip I also had the opportunity to visit Tarvisio and Udine.

Fusine is famous for its two lakes. Actually I visited only one (the smallest), but from what I understood the prettiest. The word beautiful falls short. This small lake is a slice of paradise that the gods left us here on earth. Just seeing photos of this place gives relax and that inner peace we need. We went during a “cloudy”, day (was not the best day to go) but since there was no time to wait in meteorological improvements, we just went. You get there and then go home with both batteries and soul recharged. What impressed me the most were the colors of the water, something indescribable.

You can arrive there by car, but I heard that is also connected with local public transportation. In any case, is not difficult to get there using a navigator. You can walk around the lake using the path around tha lake, you can rent a boats to sail, get a snack and have a picnic, take a blanket and lie down to read or your listen to nature …

All this visual orgasm and doing activities around will make you hungry and fortunately there is a bar that offers simple but delicious local cuisine snacks like potato polenta with sausages ( wich I had the pleasure to try). Well, when I say that I left that place renewed as if I went to a spa, do you believe me right? I even left my friend to take me a picture! (I said it all)

Now that winter approachs, I cannot imagine how spectacular this place should be after a snowfall, on a sunny day…
